Debt market   •

Government bonds plunged, as the elevation of new governor, seen as  an inflation hawk, damped expectations of near-term monetary easing
• The benchmark 7.59% bond maturing in 2026 ended at | 102.92 against  the previous close of | 103.31
• The benchmark 7.59% 2026 bond yield en ded at 7.16%, up 6 bps from  its previous close.

 Forex (US$/INR)  

• The rupee fell to a near one-month low, tracking weakness in regional  peers as the dollar strengthened over night on fresh speculations of a US  Federal Reserve rate hike in coming months
 • The dollar index against six major currencies ended almost flat at 94.52  as strength in major currencies ahead of the meeting of central bankers  in Jackson Hole led to profit booking in the US dollar.

USD/JPY. Pair after opening at 101.17and made a high of 102.15 and was seen strong buying pressure, the pair had bottom out and made a low of 98.98 and from there the pair had reversed and now trading near its 08Dma 102.35, the pair is not able to go below 99.levels and that has emerge as a strong support so any trade above 100.50 is a breakout buying in the pair

Fundamental Overview

Yen is trading at 100.25, appreciating marginally against the US dollar before Bank of Japan Governor Kuroda is set to speak today. Yen is likely to take support near the 100.00 level and would remain in the 100.00-101.00 range this week. Look to sell the Japanese currency near the 100.00 levels.

GBP/USD. Pair after opening at 1.3062 made a low of 1.3032 , and saw some short covering from lower levels the pair is respecting the levels of 1.3100 as a resistance and 20DMA at 1.3096 and now that has become support and the pair is making inverted head and shoulder pattern on hourly chart so intraday dips shall be utilized to buy the pair

Fundamental Overview

Pound is trading at 1.3140; recovering from the lows that were seen yesterday. There was no economic data reported from the UK and not much to be announced in this week, focus would be on the Jackson Hole meeting starting from Thursday and we would like to fade any upticks in the Pound.

EUR/USD. Pair after opening at 1.1327 Made a high of 1.1327, and was trading with a positive bias, during the day ,but the pair has violated the recent range and any rise close to its 50DMA at 1.1133 is likely to find resistance and strong resistance near 200DMA at 1.1152 and now trading above the major resistance so if not able to pass 1.1366 is a shorting opportunity

Fundamental Overview

Euro is trading at 1.1335, remaining largely unchanged on a low data day. European and German PMI data scheduled to be reported today are likely to be in line with expectations. Trend in the PMI has been positive in the recent times and would continue to remain the same to limit depreciation in Euro.

US dollar index is trading at 94.44; remained supported as optimism about rate hike from the US remained high and markets reading comments from FED members as signs of impending hike in the near term. There was no data reported yesterday and dollar remained supported against most of the majors. Home sales data to be reported today and would not have a major impact on the markets.

Chart of USDINR, the pair after opening at 67.28 and made a low of 67.21 and trading side wise a and saw some buying from lower levels, but the pair maintained the levels of 66.70 on spot and had formed a bullish candle few days now we are near the support and now its trading above the range of 66.70-67.05 so any dip shall be utilized to buy the pair

The Indian rupee opened higher by 7 paise at 67.12 per dollar on Tuesday against previous close 67.19.

 "The market attention is fully focused on Fed Chief Janet Yellen's Jackson Hole speech this weekend, after some hawkish comments from Fed speakers have increased the probability of Fed hiking interest rates earlier than anticipated."

"We expect the USD-INR pair to trade in the 67-67.50/dollar range in the near term,"

The dollar remained broadly higher against the other major currencies in quiet trade on Monday, as fresh hopes for a possible U.S. rate hike before the end of the year continued to support to the greenback.

EUR/USD slipped 0.16% to 1.1306, off the four-day low of 1.1270 hit overnight.

The dollar remained supported after San Francisco Federal Reserve Bank President John Williams on Thursday signaled support for a September rate increase.

"In the context of a strong domestic economy with good momentum, it makes sense to get back to a pace of gradual rate increases, preferably sooner rather than later," he said.

Minutes of the Federal Reserve's July policy meeting published earlier in the week showed committee members remained divided on the timing of the next rate hike, although there is general agreement that more data is needed before such a move.

GBP/USD rose 0.23% to 1.3105.
USD/JPY gained 0.33% to 100.53, while USD/CHF rose 0.28% to 0.9629.

The Australian and New Zealand dollars were weaker, with AUD/USD down 0.20% at 0.7613 and with NZD/USD sliding 0.30% to 0.7251.

Elsewhere, USD/CAD was up 0.31% at 1.2911, after hitting a one-week high of 1.2929 earlier in the day.

The U.S. dollar index, which measures the greenback’s strength against a trade-weighted basket of six major currencies, was up 0.16% at 94.63, the highest since August 17.
